THE IDEA, IN PLAIN LANGUAGE
Payment history records whether obligations were paid as agreed. Late payments can lead to fees and, when reported, hurt credit. Making the required payment by the due date matters even when you plan to pay more later.
KEY VOCABULARY
- Due date
- Date by which the required payment must be received.
A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
Set a due-date reminder and check that any automatic payment has enough funds. Contact the lender early if you cannot pay.
A COMMON MISTAKE
Assuming setting up autopay means you never need to check the account.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Build a payment process you can sustain and verify.
