THE IDEA, IN PLAIN LANGUAGE
A credit score is a model’s estimate of credit risk based on report data. You have multiple scores because models, versions, bureaus and calculation dates differ. Lenders can consider other factors as well.
KEY VOCABULARY
- Scoring model
- Rules used to calculate a score from credit information.
A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
A score in a banking app may differ from the score used by a mortgage lender, without either being an error.
A COMMON MISTAKE
Expecting one action to deliver a guaranteed number of points.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Understand the underlying habits rather than chasing a specific point increase.
