THE IDEA, IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

A chart timeframe determines how much time one candle represents. A five-minute chart and daily chart describe the same market at different scales. Shorter timeframes often show more noise and can magnify the effect of transaction costs.

KEY VOCABULARY

Timeframe
The period represented by each chart bar or candle.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

A price decline on a five-minute chart may occur inside a rising daily trend. Both descriptions can be true.

A COMMON MISTAKE

Changing timeframes until the chart supports the trade you want.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Choose a consistent analysis process before looking for an entry.
