THE IDEA, IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

Support is an area where buying has previously slowed a decline. Resistance is an area where selling has previously slowed a rise. These are approximate zones, not barriers. Prices can move through them.

KEY VOCABULARY

Support
An observed area of buying interest.
Resistance
An observed area of selling interest.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

On a historical chart, mark a zone where price turned several times. Then look for times it broke through rather than only the examples that worked.

A COMMON MISTAKE

Drawing an exact line and assuming price cannot cross it.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Use zones to organize observations, with a plan for being wrong.
